The guiding principle of the Chinese curriculum is to instill in our students a sense of Chinese identity through an understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and literature.

Our lesson content structure is different from either Chinese linguistics or Chinese history. It focuses on the development and evolution of Chinese literature through different historic phases, and thereby brings out social and cultural changes along the way. Classic works of literature and literary giants throughout thousands of years of Chinese history are studied in some detail. Following a route of article/story¡ªliterature¡ªhistory¡ªculture, students gradually build up their ability to appreciate traditional and contemporary Chinese literature.

Also, as part of the IGCSE system, Chinese - First Language is also taught as a CIE examination subject (course code 0509). As such, the course starts from G1 and is completed at the end of G2 when students sit the external tests. Compared with the rigour of our classroom teaching, the requirements of the IGCSE syllabus are relatively easy to meet for our students.
