History Department

History was introduced into the school academic curriculum in September 2007 at IGCSE level. There are currently two G1 classes studying the CIE 0470 History core content on Twentieth Century International History 1919-91, and one G2 class taking the depth study of America 1919-41 prior to examination in May 2009. Both G1 and G2 classes are taught by an American expatriate teacher.

The Head of Department, an experienced British expatriate, has introduced Advanced Level History from September 2008, teaching the CIE 9697 course on International History 1945-91, which focuses on the United Nations and Cold War, prior to examination in June 2009. This will be followed by study of American History 1848-1968.

At both levels of study, the emphasis of the department is on active learning, discussion and a critical approach to historical sources of evidence.
