SCIE is governed by a Board that dictates school policy and decides strategic directions in consultation with the executive principal and the academic head. The main educational aim is for academic excellence with a view to embarking on higher education overseas, mainly in the UK . Departments include all academic disciplines, education administration, student affairs, logistic support, student recruitment, finance, and overseas study.

Daily operations are run by the Office of the Principal, with infrastructure and Chinese staff reporting to the Executive Principal, and academic matters being directed by the Academic Head.
