SCIE is governed by a Board that dictates school policy and decides strategic directions in consultation with the executive principal and the academic head. The main educational aim is for academic excellence with a view to embarking on higher education overseas, mainly in the UK . Departments include all academic disciplines, education administration, student affairs, logistic support, student recruitment, finance, and overseas study.
Daily operations are run by the Office of the Principal, with infrastructure and Chinese staff reporting to the Executive Principal, and academic matters being directed by the Academic Head. The challenges in establishing SCIE as one of the foremost A level institutions in China in such a very short period of time have been unique even for educators of considerable experience in education at various levels in other parts of the world. The rather rigid hierarchical system of Chinese education and traditional management and the methodologies still used in normal schools are quite diametrically opposed to what would be considered good educational practice in the West. However, with a sense of goodwill and co-operative spirit; with flexibility and compromise; a developing understanding of diverse cultures and above all underpinned by the interests of our students at heart East has enjoined with West to construct a formidable internationally focused College. SCIE has gained an exceptional level of success in its short history; attracting high calibre students and exceptional Staff, producing excellent students having high expectations and the vast majority realizing their highest aspirations in gaining places at some of the most prestigious universities in the World. |
